The Vice Presidential Candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has taken a swipe at the National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah over what he terms under-development in his hometown of Seikwa in the Bono Region.
In the view of Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as Napo, Mr Asiedu Nketiah and the NDC guru have benefitted hugely from Seikwa without contributing to the growth of the area.
He wondered why Seikwa in the Tain District, which is one of the popular towns in the country, is lacking key developmental projects such as roads, hospitals, schools, and other important amenities, stressing that Seikwa deserves better.
Dr Prempeh described Asiedu Nketiah as a selfish person who has only benefited from Seikwa but has not contributed to its development.
“Seikwa is a popular town in Ghana because this famous town is always on the lips of Asiedu Nketiah of the NDC. He has benefited immensely from this town, which has helped him to relocate his nuclear family to Canada.
“But I’m very surprised and sad that upon all the noise that he has made about Seikwa and the benefits that he has derived from the community, the major road linking Seikwa to other major towns in this area is in deplorable state”.
Napo, who was addressing a mammoth crowd at Seikwa as part of his campaign tour of the Bono Region on Tuesday, said because of Mr Asiedu Nketiah’s self-centeredness, the NDC doesn’t deserve votes in Seikwa.
According to him, if Asiedu Nketiah and his NDC members visit Seikwa with juicy promises to canvass for votes ahead of the December 7 presidential and parliamentary polls, the people of Seikwa should reject them.
“Asiedu Nketiah has been a Member of Parliament (MP), a minister, NDC General Secretary and now Chairman, yet he did not do anything meaningful to help develop Seikwa, which he has used as a vehicle to reach his enviable status in life.
“If he comes to you with juicy promises in a desperate attempt to win your votes, please reject them because Asiedu Nketiah and the NDC don’t have the interest and the development of Seikwa at heart”, Napo admonished.
This year, the NPP vice Presidential Candidate said he is expecting Seikwa residents to reject Asiedu Nketiah and his NDC and rather vote massively for Alhaji Dr Bawumia and the NPP parliamentary candidate to develop their area.
He also expressed concern about how the people in the Zongo communities usually cast their ballots for the NDC during elections, only to be ignored by the NDC whenever they assumed the mantle of leadership in the country.
Napo said it’s only the NPP that has the development of the country at heart, recounting how ex-President Kufuor introduced free maternal care to support the people, which was later on cancelled by the Mills-Mahama administration.
According to him, the country can only be effectively developed by an NPP government and reiterated his appeal to the people to vote massively for Dr Bawumia since he is the right person to lead the country into affluence.
