Genet Services, the organisers of the Women in Worship concert, are unhappy with London-based Nigerian gospel artiste Ada Ehi over the artiste’s absence from this year's concert, after taking part payment of her performance fee.
According to the organisers, Ada Ehi who was billed for the concert slated for Sunday, September 22, 2024, was paid $5,000 out of the agreed amount.
Speaking to Feeling Daddy on Empire FM, the Coordinator for Women in Worship, Nana Asare said they encountered a lot of challenges while engaging Ada for the concert.
Nana said they reached out to Ada’s team to book her for the event. However, after the promotional materials were released, her manager informed them that they would increase the fee.
"We had a conversation with Ada's team to book Ada for Women in Worship. They agreed and gave us a cost and at a point when the flyers came out, the manager said they were increasing the agreed amount and that it was because they did not know that we were going to have other gospel artistes on the bill and they didn't know it was a ticketed event.
The flyer came out and then there were other ministers on board and they came to us that they were increasing the amount that we had even made part payment for immediately we agreed - that's the $5,000. Now they wanted to increase it from $8000 to $10,000," Nana said.
He further noted that the two parties agreed on the new fee while Genet Serviced promised to pay the remainder.
He said Genet Services had to resort to a third party in Ghana for the booking when communication got complicated.
"At a point the manager was not forthcoming so we had a third party person in Ghana here who had a relationship with Ada's husband and Ada in person so we were dealing through that third party. So they sent us their passport and everything for the booking of flight on the 20th September and we booked the flight," he said.
Nana Asare also mentioned they encountered more issues with the travel arrangements. Genet Services had booked a round-trip flight from London to Ghana for her, costing over €4,700. According to Asare, on the day she was supposed to arrive, Ehi missed her flight, citing unforeseen circumstances.
The organisers then rebooked a one-way ticket from London to Accra and informed her team that she could use the original return flight. However, her team insisted that another round-trip ticket should be booked for her, but the organisers did not consent to that.
In the wake of all this, Ada Ehi’s band had already arrived in Ghana and done rehearsals. The Coordinator for Women in Worship also recounted that on Sunday morning, Ada’s band left the the Airbnb booked for them without notifying the organisers.
Asare stated that even though Ada Ehi’s team initially agreed to refund the $5,000, they later said they would use it to pay for costs they incurred.
'What did they spend? And who caused them to spend that money? Because we booked you, we made arrangement for your flight, you didn't board any flight, you didn't travel to Ghana. Your team that came, we booked the flight for them in and out. We gave them Airbnb to sleep in, we provided food and everything for them. So what kind of expenditure was that?," he asked.
Ada Ehi had been billed to perform at the Women in Worship concert in Ghana alongside Ghanaian artistes Empress Gifty, Diana Hamilton, and her fellow Nigerian gospel artiste Mercy Chinwo.
