The founder of the KAMA Group of Companies, Dr Michael Agyekum Addo, has passed away on Friday, November 1, at the age of 74.
Dr Agyekum Addo, renowned for his trailblasing spirit and dedication to empowering the next generation, leaves behind a legacy marked by resilience and a passion for business and education.
A respected figure in Ghana’s pharmaceutical sector, his journey began humbly in 1983 with a small pharmacy in Kumasi.
Just three years later, he was manufacturing medical products from his garage, laying the foundation for KAMA Group, which grew into a business powerhouse.
His ventures, which expanded to include retail and wholesale outlets across the country, as well as micro-finance, real estate, and even a multi-purpose conference centre, embodied his vision of economic growth and innovation.
Dr Agyekum Addo’s life extended beyond business.
As Nkabomhene of the New Juaben Traditional Area in Koforidua, he served his community with the same zeal he dedicated to his enterprises.
He also pioneered the Kama Education Project, focusing on youth empowerment by teaching entrepreneurial skills to students.
His honorary doctorate from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 2005 and recent PhD from the University of Ghana in 2022 reflect his unwavering commitment to learning and growth.
Dr Agyekum Addo’s life, from his first pharmacy in Kumasi to the vast business network he built, remains an inspiring testament to Ghana’s spirit of entrepreneurship and community leadership.
His legacy endures not only in the companies he created but in the countless young lives he aimed to uplift and inspire.
