Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, President of the National House of Chiefs, has urged chiefs across Ghana to actively promote peace as the country approaches the December 7 elections.
He encouraged them to maintain the honor and integrity of the chieftaincy institution by conducting themselves responsibly during this crucial period.
With just 36 days remaining before Ghanaians head to the polls to elect their next president and parliament members, calls for a peaceful election are gaining momentum among key stakeholders.
Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II highlighted the essential role chiefs play as ambassadors of peace, stressing the need for collaboration to ensure a smooth and peaceful election process.
In his end-of-tenure speech delivered at a gathering in Kumasi on Friday, November 1, he appealed to chiefs to work together and support efforts to maintain a stable and harmonious environment before, during, and after the elections.
Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II also reminded chiefs to uphold the reputation of the chieftaincy institution by showing respect and decorum in all their actions and interactions during the election period.
“With the parliamentary and presidential elections with only a few days to go, let us continue our advocacy for fair, peaceful and transparent elections.”
“The challenges notwithstanding is not an exaggeration to say that the brand value of the chieftaincy issue has improved and its public visibility continues to increase."
“We need to continue to work harder to maintain the image and respect for our institution. Our conduct and behaviours as individuals, as chiefs and as an institution, should help uplift our image, we should do nothing to undermine this image.”
