President Akufo-Addo has underscored the need for stringent cybersecurity measures as the country steps into a new era of digital connectivity.
According to him, while 5G technology holds tremendous potential for advancing Ghana's economy and empowering the youth, ensuring robust data privacy and security frameworks is essential.
He said this at the launch of the 55 service in Accra on Friday, October 11.

Speaking in Accra, the President emphasised that "the journey ahead requires vision and responsibility. 5G is a powerful catalyst for shaping Ghana's future.”
“With this power comes the responsibility to use it wisely. We must address concerns around data privacy, cybersecurity, and responsible use to ensure that 5G fosters progress, not division."
As Ghana’s youth, who make up a significant portion of the population, stand to benefit from enhanced digital capabilities, the President highlighted government initiatives, including the Ghana Innovation Hub and coding programs, designed to equip young people with vital digital skills.
"Through initiatives like the Ghana Innovation Hub and coding programs, we're equipping them with digital skills to drive the future of innovation in Ghana by empowering the youth, we ensure a future where domestic talent drives our digital transformation,” he added.
But he stressed that alongside these programs, efforts to protect data integrity and ensure safe usage must be prioritised.
