The Gamey and Gamey ADR Institute has launched the 5th Professional Mediation Expedition aimed at promoting professionalism in Appropriate (Alternative) Dispute Resolution practice in Ghana.
The 2024 mediation expedition, which is also to enhance public awareness for the adoption of ADR mechanisms, particularly mediation, for the resolution of disputes, is set to be held at the Aburi Botanical Gardens in the Eastern region from October 31 to November 2, 2024 on the theme, “Shaping Sustainable Peaceful Futures Through Quality ADR Practice.
It involves mediation camping for the graduating cohort of the Institutes 2024 Professional Executive Master of ADR (PEM ADR) programme, who will engage in intensive simulation exercises to sharpen their skills.
The annual event, being organized in collaboration with ADR Daily, also involves a community ADR awareness creation campaign in Aburi and surrounding towns during which mediators would help in resolving disputes among residents in the communities.
This years event, being supported by Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG), Golden Exotics Ltd, Millennium Insurance, and HPW Fresh & Dry, would also have experts to discuss pertinent issues towards promoting the use of ADR is resolving conflicts that have engulfed various sectors of the Ghanaian society.
At the media launch of the event in Accra on Monday, Mrs Lizzy-Ann Kwagbedzi, Deputy CEO of Gamey and Gamey Group, explained that the camp participants, who have undergone extensive training under the PEM.ADR programme, will tackle complex dispute resolution scenarios across sectors, applying mediation strategies in real-world settings to refine their techniques.
This years expedition aims to not only test the skills of our trainees but also push them to think critically about how ADR can resolve long-standing conflicts sustainably, in response to Ghanas unique needs, she said.
In addition, she explained that the sessions will feature insights from seasoned ADR practitioners and will cover cutting-edge techniques in mediation, to enable participants to stay ahead of emerging trends and challenges in the field.
For his part, Mr Edmund Mingle, Editor of ADR Daily and Coordinator of the Event, noted that the mediation expedition continues to grow in prominence, following previous successful outings held at notable venues like Afadjato in the Volta Region and Bunso Eco Park and the Aburi Gardens in the Eastern Region over the past four years.
Describing the event as part of their corporate social responsibility interventions in promoting the effective practice and adoption of ADR in Ghana, Mr Mingle expressed appreciation to the sponsors for their support towards expanding the frontiers of ADR in Ghana.
