Akufo-Addo assents to Ghana Shippers’ Authority Act 2024

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assented to the Ghana Shippers’ Authority Act 2024 which was passed by Parliament on 29th July 2024

A statement issued and signed by the Management of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) copied to the Ghana News Agency said this landmark legislation, achieved in GSA’s 50th year, strengthens the GSA’s regulatory mandate, establishing a robust, fair, and internationally competitive environment for commercial shipping in Ghana.

It said the new Act now enables GSA to regulate across all modes of transport—sea, air, and land—to ensure fairness, efficiency, and integrity within the shipping and logistics sector.

“Ghana’s shipping industry stands to gain from this fortified oversight, which safeguards transparency in pricing and fairness in service delivery, establishing Ghana as a destination of choice for international trade.”

It said to enable the realization of this overarching aim of the Act, the GSA had embarked on a nationwide sensitization campaign to educate stakeholders about their rights and responsibilities under the new Act.

Alongside this, the GSA is also soliciting input for the Legislative Instrument (L.I.) being developed to aid the operationalization of the law, and hereby urges all stakeholders to participate actively in the exercise for the mutual good of the sector and the nation.

The Ghana Shippers' Authority extended its profound gratitude to all stakeholders whose invaluable input shaped this legislative milestone. “Together, we have laid a foundation for a resilient, sustainable, and competitive commercial shipping ecosystem that will benefit all parties involved in the shipping, logistics, and broader trade sectors,” ir said.

Established in 1974 as the Ghana Shippers' Council and renamed in 1998 to reflect its enhanced mandate, the GSA has long championed a balanced, thriving trade environment

The statement urged stakeholders to visit any of GSA’s five (5) zonal offices or any Shipper Complaints and Support Unit, or to contact via 0302-666915-7 or 0800-300055 for further information should any be required.
