Abdul-Majeed Iddrisu Nassam Dokurig, the Parliamentary Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Effia Constituency in the Western Region, appears to have won the hearts of the electorates in his constituency.
This follows the huge crowd the candidate pulled during this electioneering campaign.
"He continues to pull the crowd in the constituency despite facing a stiffer challenge from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) which is currently holding the seat,” one of the constituents said.
Whilst the NDC Parliamentary candidate's campaign launch was described as unprecedented in the last two weeks, his three-hour keep-fit on Sunday, 27th October 2024, was the latest to cement his authority as the favourite of the Effia electorates in the December elections.
As usual, the constituents turned out in their numbers in NDC colours.
"This turnout can be described as an unpredictable mammoth crowd, people purely showing up for the exercise and showing the candidate true love" Yussif Baba Adam, an ardent supporter of the NDC, who has never seen this said.
Some observers compared his turnout to that of the NPP’s candidate Yaw Boamah of NPP held on the same day and concluded that he pulled a larger crowd than him.
The open admiration and unstoppable jubilation displayed on Sunday morning by the constituents, many concluded, was the testament, that power had indeed changed hands in the Effia constituency.
The humble and affable young politician had the blessings and support of former Minister of Information Kofi Totobi Quakye, who led the keep fit through the principal streets of Effiakuma, Lagos Town, Tanokrom, Newsite and Effia.
Another significant sign of victory, according to the constituents, was a minor downpour recorded during the exercise, which was primarily a repetition of what transpired during the campaign launch last two weeks which recorded a downpour.
Following 3 hours of extensive walking and exercising, though interlaced with brass band music and dance, as well as popular party songs, and hiplife music, the crowd finally retired at Effia where they were addressed by the candidate.
In his address, he pointed out three fundamental issues that would occupy his administration as the next lawmaker of Effia.
These, he said would include job creation to actualize the 24-hour Economy of President John Dramani Mahama.
In achieving this, he said through an apprenticeship programme to be introduced, many youths of Effia would secure jobs and secure their future under President John Dramani Mahama.
Aside from that, he said his "Boss" acronym policy, which would target strategic areas of investment, would empower the youth of Effia Constituency as well as women groups.
Abdul Majeed Iddrisu Nasam Dokurigu said the introduction of the Women Development Bank (WDB) by President John Dramani Mahama as part of his policy initiatives, would allow Effia to establish a corporative credit union to help vulnerable groups and women in the constituency.
In the end, the historic health walk was described as peaceful and incident-free despite the huge number of electorates showing up to support the Parliamentary candidate.
About the Effia Constituency
The Effia Constituency was carved out of Effia-Kwesimintsim Constituency. But, since the creation of the new constituency, the NDC has never won any of the two seats.
Unfortunately for the NPP, the candidate who has always won the Effia seat, which is the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) Joseph Cudjoe, would not be on the ballot, and therefore, would not contest the elections.
This follows his defeat at the Parliamentary primary of the NPP won by Patrick Yaw Boamah Nyarko.
Analysts say the reason why the baton is shifting to the NDC candidate stems from the fact that he was born and raised in Effia, unlike his opponent.
This, they considered as an added advantage propelling the candidate to give the NPP a run for their money in the constituency.
Abdul Majeed Iddrisu Nasam Dokurigu believes he would win the seat considering the undiluted alluring appeal he has in the constituency.
