Nigeria claimed the 2024 U-20 WAFU B Cup of Nations Championship title following their 2-1 win over Ghana on Wednesday, October 30.
Nigeria were the better side in the opening half of the game and were rightly rewarded for their efforts.
Nigeria opened the scoring in the 33rd minute of the game with a brilliant finish from Kparobo Arierhi.
Arierhi doubled the lead for his side 10 minutes later as he tucked into the top left corner after a loose ball in the 18-yard box.
Desmond Ofei’s side went into the break trailing by two goals having had a poor 45 minutes.
The Satellites came back from the break a stronger side and enjoyed possession from the start.
Hayford Adu Boahen created opportunities in the final third of the pitch but Ghana failed to make the most of them.
However, Jerry Afriyie pulled one back for Ghana in the 75th minute.
The Thoughts FC forward headed home his fifth goal of the tournament to give Ghana a lifeline.
Despite a spirited late attempt from Ghana, Nigeria held their nerves to ensure they sealed the win and went on to lift the trophy.
Regardless of the result on Wednesday night, the two teams automatically qualify for next year’s U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
