It was an emotional atmosphere at the Jachie Church of Pentecost, well-wishers of 31 young engineers paid glowing tribute to Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister for Education for sponsoring them to study engineering at the University.

At a thanksgiving service to appreciate what God through Dr. Adutwum had done for them, the smartly dressed fresh graduates could not hide their admiration for their benefactor for turning their dreams into reality.

Parents of the beneficiaries told stories of how the intervention of Dr Adutwum, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bosomtwe, had turned their hopeless situations into testimonies.

“Today, by the special grace of God and Dr. Adutwum my daughter is an engineer, and my prayer is that God should bless him and his family abundantly for looking out for the poor,” Madam Akosua Adutwumwaa, mother of one of the beneficiaries prayed.

Other parents who took turns to offer their sincere gratitude praised the Minister for the live-changing and selfless services he had been rendering his constituents since becoming their MP.

The 31 engineers are the first batch of about 150 students from Bosomtwe being sponsored by Dr. Adutwum to study engineering and medicine in various universities.

Among them are medical students who are also expected to complete their studies in two years.

The scholarship package includes tuition, accommodation, a monthly stipend, and a laptop each to aid their studies.

The vision of the education minister initially was to produce 100 engineers and medical doctors for Bosomtwe from his personal resources as one of his legacies for representing the good people of Bosomtwe but had to increase the target to meet the increasing demand for support.

Dr Adutwum said the decision to support the students was motivated by the financial challenges he faced growing up, which almost cost him the opportunity to go to secondary school, but for the sacrifices of his elder brother and parents.

He said it was his little way of giving back to society having risen to become the Minister for Education from a humble beginning.

Education, he said, was the surest way to boost the human resource base of any country hence his deliberate effort to commit resources to the education of young people in Bosomtwe.

According to him, politics was all about pursuing policies to improve the quality of life of the people.

“That is why it is important to elect people who can implement transformative and impactful policies for the benefit of the larger society,” he asserted.

He, therefore, urged the people of Bosomtwe and Ghanaians to ensure the New Patriotic Party (NPP) receives a massive endorsement at the polls and not to truncate the good policies being implemented by government.
