The Techiman South Municipal Assembly in the Bono East Region has finally elected a Presiding Member (PM) to steer the fairs of the Assembly.
The 48-member assembly comprising 32 elected members and 16 government appointees had earlier failed to elect the PM on five attempts, a situation which had slowed down the development process in the municipality.
However, at its sitting held at Techiman on Tuesday, the Assembly successfully elected Mr Isaac Kwaku Frimpong, a government appointee and teacher at the Techiman Senior High School as the PM.
Mr Frimpong polled 35 votes representing 73 percent of the total valid votes cast to beat his only contender, Mr Adams Issah, the Assembly Member for the Kenten Electoral Area who had 10 votes, in an election conducted and supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC).
Mr Frimpong expressed appreciation to the Assembly Members for the confidence they had reposed in him and assured to operate an open-door administration to enable all the members to contribute to the development of the municipality.
He said teamwork, tenacity and trust remained essential to facilitate the decision-making process of the assembly and urged the members to bury their differences and forge ahead in unity.
Mr Benjamin Yaw Gyarko, the Techiman Municipal Chief Executive commended the Assembly Members and expressed the hope that they would work in unity to bring the development of the municipality to the next level.
Mr Gyarko said plans were far advanced to improve the lightning systems for enhanced security in Municipality ahead of the December 7, polls, and urged the Assembly Members to remain innovative to help tackle the development needs of the people.
