The Centre for Educational Innovation and Leadership (CEIL) under the Faculty of Education (FoE) at the University for Development Studies (UDS) is set to host the 2nd Political Dialogue on Education Policy in Ghana. Scheduled for October 26, 2024, this event comes at a pivotal time as the country prepares for the general elections.

The Political Parties Dialogue, organized in collaboration with Oxfam, NORSAAC, Star Ghana, School for Life, and RAINS, aims to provide a platform for critical discussions on educational policies in Ghana.

Speaking ahead of the event, Prof. Ibrahim M. Gunu, Dean of the Faculty of Education, emphasized the importance of the dialogue.

According to him, the initiative seeks to encourage political parties to reflect on and engage with the educational policies outlined in their manifestos.

“This is an opportunity for political parties to articulate their vision for Ghana’s education sector, and for stakeholders to scrutinize and engage with those ideas,” Prof. Gunu remarked.

The dialogue will focus on pressing issues in Ghana’s educational landscape, providing an avenue for political parties to explain their strategies for addressing these challenges.

Although the Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed nine political parties and four independent candidates for the 2024 general elections, the dialogue will feature only political parties with representation in the current National Legislative Assembly or those that have previously produced Members of Parliament (MPs) in any session of the Fourth Republic.

Based on these criteria, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Convention People's Party (CPP), and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will participate in the discussions.

The event will take place at the UDS Multi-Purpose Auditorium in Tamale and will be broadcast live on JoyNews and Joy FM as well as its social media platforms.

The programme is set to begin at 7:30p.m. and will run until 10p.m., with participants expected to be seated by 7p.m.

This dialogue provides a unique opportunity for stakeholders in education and the general public to hear directly from political parties about their plans for the future of education in Ghana.

It promises to be an engaging and thought-provoking session as the nation prepares for the upcoming elections.
