Academic City University College secured second place in the recently concluded Cyber 9/12 Strategy Challenge, held from October 7-8, 2024, in Cape Town, South Africa.
The university was also recognised with the award for Most Creative Policy Brief.
The competition, organised by the Atlantic Council U.S.A., brought together some of Africa's brightest minds to tackle a simulated cyber crisis and present innovative strategic policy recommendations.
Academic City’s team, dubbed "Cyber Legends," comprised Emmanuella Uwudia, Eli Maxwell Aidam, Ama Baidoo (all Level 300 Computer Science students), and Ngono Eteme Jessica (Level 300 Artificial Intelligence student).
They competed against university teams from Senegal, Namibia, Botswana, Eswatini, Malawi, and South Africa.
Reflecting on the experience, team leader Emmanuella Uwudia remarked, "Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships.
"The Cyber 9/12 Strategy Challenge pushed us to think critically and creatively, and it was an incredible opportunity to test our skills on an international stage."
She also commended Academic City for equipping them with the skills necessary to excel in the competition.
Dr. Grace Oletu, who mentored the team throughout the challenge, commended the students for their tenacity, focus, and creativity.
"The team was dedicated, followed instructions diligently, and represented Academic City with excellence.
"Their success is a testament to the innovative spirit and commitment to academic excellence that we foster at Academic City."
