The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has vowed to pursue legal action to ensure the government compensates all victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage.
The spillage, which occurred in September 2023, displaced thousands of residents in the Lower Volta Basin and severely impacted farmlands and livelihoods.
Addressing supporters during a victory walk organised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in his constituency, Mr Ablakwa reiterated his commitment to fighting for the rights of the affected individuals.
He stressed that the government's promised compensation must be fulfilled.
Mr Ablakwa emphasised that his efforts to seek justice for the victims would continue until proper compensation is secured.
He made it clear that he would not relent in advocating for the affected residents.
The MP highlighted the devastating consequences of the spillage, urging the government to act swiftly in providing relief to those who have lost their homes and means of livelihood.
“I have been assuring my constituents that we shall not forsake them, we shall not abandon them. All the victims of the [Volta River Authority] VRA’s spillage, we will not rest until every single one of them is fully compensated.”
“And we are initiating legal action to make sure that we compel the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government, a government that has abdicated, a government that has neglected the needs of the people, we will compel them to wake up to their responsibilities, and we will not rest until all my constituents are fully and duly compensated," he stated.
