The spokesperson for John Mahama’s campaign team, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has credited Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga, for playing a pivotal role in shaping her political career.
Speaking on Women, Power, and Politics on JoyNews, she shared that her political interest was sparked during their time as peers, especially when Mr Ayariga pursued his ambition to become the MP.
According to Mogtari, Ayariga’s influence has been significant throughout her career.
“Most of my immediate interest in NDC politics actually came from Mahama Ayariga because we were on campus when he began chasing his ambition to become MP for Bawku Central,” she said.
She added, “I believe my longest conversations about modern politics were with Mahama Ayariga, especially about his campaign in Bawku Central.
"I always credit him for encouraging me to appear as a communications person for the NDC on radio and TV, as far back as the late 1990s when we were all students.”
Joyce Bawah Mogtari is widely recognised as one of Ghana’s most accomplished women politicians, breaking numerous barriers in the traditionally male-dominated political space.
A dedicated member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), she has served in various capacities within the party.
Notably, she was part of the 30-member legal team of the NDC and served as the spokesperson for President John Mahama’s 2016 presidential campaign.
After the elections, Mahama appointed her as his special aide and official spokesperson.
