Asamoah Gyan has postponed the All Regional Games, originally set to begin this year, to 2025.
The event, aimed at discovering sporting talent across Ghana, was launched in July 2024, and trials had already begun to select the best athletes.
However, in a statement released by Gyan, he explained that the postponement would allow them "to build an even bigger and more impactful event."
The new date for next year’s event is expected to be announced soon.
Each region was tasked with conducting trials to identify their top sportsmen and women. Athletes selected, aged 18 to 23, were set to compete against their counterparts from other regions.
The competition was to feature nine sports disciplines: Football, Athletics, Volleyball, Basketball, Tennis, Table Tennis, Boxing, E-sports, and Arm-wrestling.
The statement continued: “The All Regional Games remains dedicated to its mission of identifying and developing athletes who can proudly represent Ghana on the international stage.
“To our registered athletes, rest assured that your data remains secure, and you will be given priority for the 2025 edition. New athletes will also be welcomed, with the same rigorous regional trials in place to ensure fair selection and representation.”
Gyan had initially aligned with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the All Regional Games, having been appointed chairman of the Youth and Sports sub-committee for the party's manifesto team in February.
However, six months later, the former Ghana captain renounced his membership in the NPP to focus on humanitarian work, and added that he had not "been fair to the youth and the people of Ghana."
