The Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. DaCosta Aboagye has asserted that the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has delivered to the expectations of Ghanaians within the last eight years.
He, therefore, entreated the electorate to vote for the NPP presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in a show of appreciation to enable him to continue his digitisation agenda for the country.
Dr. DaCosta Aboagye was speaking at a ceremony to operationalise the North Dayi District office of the National Health Insurance Scheme at Anfoega in the Volta Region.
“The Nana Addo-Bawumia government has not disappointed Ghanaians. We have done so much and need to be rewarded”, he stressed.
He outlined the digitalisation agenda of the NPP government as a major stride in streamlining the country’s expenditure and protecting the public purse.
“Those of you who travel, when you travel, it is what? Digitalisation. Our development hangs on digitalisation. To fight corruption, it is what, digitalisation. That is why the NHIS has also focused on digitalisation. Today we have reduced the incidents of fraud in the claims system because of, digitalisation”, he said.
He also echoed the prompt payment of claims, the expansion of membership, and diseases covered by the NHIS as strides under his watch, aiming to ease the healthcare burden on Ghanaians.
He explained that the allocation of a district office in North Dayi was aimed at ensuring members of the scheme do not have to travel out of the district to access services.
The Volta Regional Director of the NHIA, Joseph Homenya promised the provision of proper district offices for the scheme next year.
The North Dayi District Chief Executive, Kudzo Atta lauded the initiative by NHIS and advised people of the Volta Region on their political affiliations.
“I say without any sense of doubt that if any region is supposed to support the NPP, it should be the Volta Region. I said so because we are very poor and so when you have a government that brings about all pro-poor policies, then it is because of the people of the Volta Region”, he stressed.
About 5 NHIS offices are at various stages of completion across the Volta Region, aimed at taking services closer to its clients.
