President Akufo-Addo has raised concerns about the leadership capabilities of National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama.
He warned that his return to power could undermine key national policies, including the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme.
President Akufo-Addo made this statement during an address to the chiefs and people of the North-East Region as part of his campaign.
He expressed fears that Mahama, if elected in the December 7 general elections, might cancel major government initiatives like the Free SHS policy.
The president referenced recent comments made by Mr Mahama as an indication that the NDC leader is not fully committed to maintaining the programme, which has provided free secondary education to many Ghanaian students.
President Akufo-Addo emphasised that the Free SHS policy has been a transformative initiative under his administration, benefiting countless families across the country.
He further urged Mr Mahama to clarify his position on the matter, arguing that the public deserves to know whether the program would continue under an NDC government.
In his address, President Akufo-Addo called on Ghanaians to vote for continuity in the December elections to safeguard the gains made in the education sector and prevent the potential rollback of policies that have improved access to education for the youth.
Let’s ask him [Mahama], which is which? What should the Ghanaian people take as their real position? Because this chopping and changing, chopping and changing, is a very difficult thing for some of us to understand.
“What should we believe? Are you going to change it? Are you going to cancel it? Are you going to improve it? Because every time you open your mouth, you say a different thing."
“I don’t think a man who talks like that, who wants the supreme office of our country, is somebody who can be trusted.”
