Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Akwatia Constituency, Ama Sey, is campaigning vigorously for Dr Bawumia to retain power and sustain the government’s good works.
She is also rooting for Ernest Yaw Kumi, the man who defeated her in an NPP parliamentary election in Akwatia in 2020, who is the current NPP parliamentary candidate (PC) for Akwatia for the December 7 polls, to win the seat.
Ama Sey said not being the NPP PC for Akwatia will not deter her from campaigning for the NPP to make a record on December 7 by becoming the first political party to win three consecutive presidential elections in the country.
She has therefore urged her supporters to emulate her shining example by also contributing their quota in order to help both Dr Bawumia and Ernest Kumi win the presidential and Akwatia parliamentary polls, respectively.
Ama Sey was addressing her constituents when the NPP Vice Presidential Candidate, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, aka ‘Napo’, who is currently campaigning in the Eastern Region, stormed the Akwatia Constituency on Monday.
Background
As a reminder, there was internal wrangling in the Akwatia Constituency NPP when Ama Sey, who was then the sitting NPP MP for Akwatia, lost a party parliamentary election by a slim margin to Ernest Kumi in 2020.
The deep cracks and the internal strife in the NPP then were not solved on time as they adversely affected the electoral fortunes of the party, making it possible for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to win the Akwatia seat.
Ama Sey’s decision to openly campaign for Dr Bawumia and Ernest Kumi is expected to enhance the NPP's chances of snatching the Akwatia seat.
Some political connoisseurs believe that a united and stronger NPP can easily win back the Akwatia parliamentary seat and also boost the party’s chances of making a record of winning the presidential election.
Ama Sey’s advice
Ama Sey said the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia NPP government has performed well in transforming the country in just eight years and thus charged the party members to campaign on the government’s positive records.
“Our government has performed excellently in all sectors of the economy to bring relief to the people. We therefore have a lot to talk about, so let’s preach about our good works to win more votes for the party”, she admonished.
Ama Sey particularly entreated the NPP members to target floating voters and NDC members when campaigning, saying that the NPP needs all available votes to be able to win both the presidential and parliamentary elections.
“NPP has a lot of projects that we can talk about to woo the voters. We should target floating voters and even NDC members because we need every available vote to retain political power”, the former Akwatia Constituency MP said.
