Piesie Esther tells true story behind ‘Okuraseni’ song

Gospel singer Piesie Esther has shared the inspiration behind the composition of her song 'Okuraseni.’

In an interview with Joy Prime’s Roselyn Felli on the Changes show, she recounted witnessing a woman in her community endure suffering, which later transformed when one of the woman's children made a positive change in their life.

The woman's life-changing experience motivated her to write the song 'Okuraseni,' meaning 'Villager,' in 2017, making it her favourite among all her songs.

“Poverty is hard, but hers was the hardest. All her children couldn’t break through, but one of her sons was stubborn among his siblings. After a period, he was nowhere to be found around the village. We searched everywhere but to no avail. Everyone thought that he had gone to commit a crime somewhere and was killed. So, the mother concluded that he was dead. At a point, the woman became shallow and could wear one cloth for days. Everyone forgot about her son because they thought he was dead,” she said.

“But to the glory of God, the boy met somebody who took him abroad, and nobody knew about it. One day, the boy paid a surprise visit to the mother with a car when she least expected it and relocated her that day abroad,” Piesie added.

This aligns with Piesie Esther's story, as she never envisioned traveling outside of Kumasi, the capital of her birthplace, Nsuta Atonsu, given her family background

Kumasi was the only town she considered if she had the opportunity to travel outside her community, as she lacked the financial means to go further and her mother was already working as a bartender there.

However, she had her breakthrough after following Rev. Seer Tony Asamoah Boateng to one of his branches in Accra, where she was privileged to compose a song for him titled 'Apae,' meaning 'Broken.'

From the beginning of her music career, she consistently prayed to God for things to work out, as she relied on her music to survive without any side business to support her. Eventually, her prayers were answered.
