Parliament is set to commence the fifth meeting of its fourth session today, October 15, 2024, at the Dome of the Accra International Conference Centre.
The relocation to this temporary venue is due to ongoing renovation works in Parliament’s main chamber, which has been the traditional site for parliamentary sittings.
The change in venue was announced in a statement by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, on September 30, 2024.
This session marks a key moment in the legislative calendar, where members of Parliament are expected to address pressing national issues.
MPs are reconvening after a brief recess, and the session promises to be critical in advancing key legislative priorities.
Notably, the fifth meeting is anticipated to deliberate on several key bills and agreements that will impact the nation’s development agenda.
During a recent emergency two-day sitting at the Dome, Parliament approved a $250 million loan agreement from the World Bank aimed at supporting Ghana's Energy Sector Recovery Programme.
This loan approval came after an initial rejection before Parliament went on recess. The government deemed the agreement essential for revitalising the country’s energy sector and boosting economic recovery.
The emergency session held on September 3 was convened primarily to reconsider the disapproved loan agreement, enabling MPs to provide the necessary financial backing for the country’s energy recovery efforts.
The decision to recall Parliament underscores the importance of ensuring that critical financial instruments are in place to support national projects.
