The Managing Director for L'AINE HR, James Laar has called for the National Tripartite Committee to take a second look at minimum wage in Ghana.

He said this during the HR Focus Conference 2024 held on October 10th, 2024, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

In His address, he said, "The National Tripartite Committee responsible for determining the National Minimum Wage should also reinvent minimum wage, to reflect the Living Wage Reports and give more realistic Wages that will help alleviate the plight of the Ghanaian workforce."

This set the tone for the event as it was themed: "Reinventing HR for a Globally Thriving workforce". The full-day event has been hailed as a resounding success, with over 600 top-tier HR professionals, and business leaders in attendance from key HR organizations, to explore re-inventive people management strategies.

The keynote speaker in the person of Mr. Brent Nartey - MD of Engen Ghana; and he spoke on strategies for charting new paths in people management.

He said; "HR Professionals need to move away from HR Management to HR Leadership, as AI will take over many roles of management - but it cannot provide leadership,"

He went on to explain, "HR Leadership is about buiding trust, inspiration, passion, authenticity, emotion and bringing change, and as HR Professionals, this is your charge to contribute success in your organisations."

Other speakers at the event included: Iris Owusu-Manu -HR Manager at Telecel Ghana, Georgina Bartels - HR at Newmont Ghana, Samuel Teye - Head of People and Culture at Stanbic Bank, Mercy Amoah - VIVO Energy's HR Manager, Auguste Ngomo - HR Director at Africa Free Trade continental area, and Fatoumata Doro, former MD of Vlisco. They individually, emphasized the importance of: Emotional intelligence in leadership,

Continuous learning and development, Tailored retention strategies, Understanding individual employee aspirations, and Fostering genuine human connections.

The event also incporated theatre, with Roverman Productions bringing to life the nuances of the workplace, for the purpose of invoking further discussions into Human Capability Building for a globally thriving workforce.
