Lecturer and communications consultant Prof. Etse Sikanku has credited Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia with significantly reducing the level of insults and indecency in Ghanaian politics.
Speaking at the launch of his book, "Dr. Bawumia and the Modern Vice Presidency," at the Islamic University on Friday, Prof. Sikanku praised Dr. Bawumia for demonstrating "remarkable" decency throughout his political career, especially in his current role as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Candidate. Sikanku noted that Bawumia's approach has contributed to a decrease in political tension in the country.
"Dr. Bawumia is a decent politician, and he has consistently shown this throughout his political career. More importantly, as a Presidential Candidate, he continues to uphold that decency," Prof. Sikanku said.
"He is respectful in the way he handles things and communicates. Even when provoked, he does not resort to insults. Clearly, this has played a major role in reducing tension in the political atmosphere."
"His decency has also transformed the political landscape of the country because the tone set by a leader is very important," he added.
Prof. Etse Sikanku also commended Dr. Bawumia for being a hardworking leader who gets the job done, highlighting a number of impactful initiatives that Bawumia has spearheaded, despite his limited role as Vice President.
Having conducted extensive research on the role of Vice Presidents in both Ghana and the United States, Prof. Sikanku rated Dr. Bawumia as the most impactful Vice President in Ghana’s history. He compared Bawumia to former U.S. Vice President Walter Mondale, who is celebrated for redefining the largely ceremonial role of the U.S. Vice President.
