Elders in the Ashaiman Zongo community have expressed gratitude to the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, for a scholarship opportunity to a native of Ashaiman to be trained as a medical doctor in Cuba.
At a community engagement programme in Ashaiman organised by Iqra Radio on Thursday, the Zongo Chiefs of Ashaiman, while asking for more scholarship and development opportunities, expressed their appreciation for the inclusion of their brilliant son, Mohammed Muntari among a group of 40 students sent to Cuba to study medicine by the Zongo Development Fund.
In 2020, the Zongo Development Fund sent 40 brilliant but needy students drawn from various Zongo communities to be trained as medical doctors in Cuba.
One of them was Mohammed Muntari, a brilliant student from an underprivileged background in Ashaiman, whose excellent all-As WASSCE results went viral on social media, as people appealed for funds to support him for his tertiary education.
The appeal got to the attention of Vice President Bawumia, who facilitated his inclusion in the list of those to be sent to Cuba.
