The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has alleged that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is plotting to capture the next parliament.

He alleged that the governing party is sponsoring independent candidates to achieve this feat to make governance difficult for John Mahama should he win the election.

He said this while addressing a rally at Sovie in the Kpando Constituency of the Volta Region.

Mr Nketia advised the electorates not to condone the plot of any parliamentary candidate who would want to ride on the name of John Mahama to achieve their political goals by preaching 'skirt and blouse' voting.

“NPP is financing those who are doing that, they want to create a lame duck Presidency for President John Dramani Mahama, so that when he becomes President [again], and parliament is captured by another party, then he cannot work”, he stressed.

Mr Nketia entreated the electorates to request parliamentary candidates who are advocating for 'skirt and blouse' voting to fully commit to the NDC before they would listen and assimilate their messages.

“Tell those who are using President Mahama’s name and NDC’s name that if they want people to vote for President Mahama, we have enough T-shirts available, they should come and pick some and wear them for their house to house before they campaign for President Mahama.

“You cannot be in an elephant T-shirt and then claim that you are campaigning for Mahama. Mahama does not like elephants”, Mr Nketia clarified.

He explained that the NDC would not work with parliamentarians who do not belong to the umbrella fraternity when it ascends to power.

Mr Nketia on the second day of his campaign tour of the Volta Region visited the Afadzato South, Kpando, North, and South Dayi Districts.

The Volta Regional NDC Chairman, Mawutor Agbavitor implored the electorates to vote for John Mahama to end the suffering of Ghanaians.

He said the implementation of Free Primary Health Care and 24-hour economy policies among others are engineered to make life easier for the citizenry.

“I remember my mother used her textiles as collateral to secure a loan to finance my education. John Mahama says that won't happen under his administration. So, he aims to provide funding to secure admission for every qualified tertiary student. In the second year, you will be given loans to continue and complete your tertiary education. After completion, you will work under the 24-hour economy to pay back the loan”, he stressed.

The Kpando Constituency NDC Parliamentary Candidate, Sebastian Deh called for unity towards securing victory in the upcoming general elections.
