The Deputy Campaign Coordinator for Special Operations of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Chief Biney Hamilton Nixon has called on Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to break his silence and take decisive action against the ongoing illegal mining (Galamsey) crisis ravaging the country.

In an open letter on his Facebook wall, Chief Biney urged the Vice President to step up and push for accountability, reminding him that the environmental destruction caused by Galamsey is a national emergency that threatens the future of generations to come.

Referencing President Akufo-Addo's past appeal for Ghanaians to be active citizens rather than spectators, Chief Biney noted that this was not merely political rhetoric but a genuine call to action.

However, both the President and the Vice President’s inaction in the face of Galamsey’s devastating effects has left the nation in dire straits.

"Our rivers are dying, our food is toxic, and future generations will inherit a country with environmental scars that may never heal," Chief Biney said.

He also implored the Vice President to rise above the silence, reminding him of the President's promise to put his presidency on the line to end illegal mining—a promise that remains unfulfilled.

He further urged the Vice President, as someone who aspires to lead Ghana, to demonstrate his capacity to confront tough issues. “You must show that you are not just a passenger in this administration, but your own man, capable of confronting hard truths,” Chief Biney added.

He further called on the Vice President to remind President Akufo-Addo that leadership is not just about wealth but about leaving behind a legacy of integrity.

“For the sake of your children and grandchildren, you must act before it is too late. A good name is better than riches, and it is time to ensure this country is left with a name we can be proud of," he stressed.

He ended his appeal with a birthday wish for the Vice President, hoping that this year marks a turning point for both him and the future of the nation.
