A motorist driving a Toyota V8 fled the scene after fatally striking a pedestrian on the Kanda Highway in Accra on Tuesday, October 8.
The accident occurred around 8:30 pm, causing significant traffic congestion.
An eyewitness Shaibu Danjuma said the driver initially stopped after the collision but quickly sped off, leaving the victim behind. The pedestrian, who remains unidentified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police arrived shortly after the accident, and the victim's body was transported to an undisclosed mortuary for further investigation and identification. Authorities are working to track down the hit-and-run driver.
Residents expressed concern about the frequent accidents along that stretch of the highway, attributing the high number of incidents to poor visibility due to the lack of streetlights.
Residents and road users have repeatedly called for improved lighting and road safety measures to prevent such occurrences, with the latest incident reigniting discussions on the need for urgent action.
