Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Omane Boamah, has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to strictly adhere to the Public Procurement Act when selecting printers for the upcoming 2024 elections.

His appeal comes amid concerns regarding transparency and fairness in the electoral process and the strict adherence to the country's laws.

In a statement on Facebook on Tuesday, October 8, Dr Boamah emphasised the importance of following established procurement guidelines to ensure that the electoral process is free from corruption and bias.

He argued that adherence to the Public Procurement Act is crucial for maintaining public confidence in the electoral system, particularly as Ghana prepares for the December polls.

Dr Boamah also highlighted that any lapses in the procurement process could undermine the integrity of the elections, potentially leading to disputes and challenges that could tarnish the credibility of the EC.

He urged the Commission to be vigilant and transparent in its dealings and assure Ghanaians that the electoral process will be conducted fairly.

The call for adherence to procurement regulations comes at a critical time, as political parties and stakeholders gear up for the elections.

By emphasising the need for transparency, Boamah hopes to reinforce public trust in the electoral process and encourage a smooth and fair election in 2024.

"The Commission must understand that ballot statistics for the printing of ballot papers are derived from a certified register and not a Provisional register."

"We also expect the EC to obey the Public Procurement Act in selecting printers for the 2024 elections."

"This being the case, we expect the Jean Mensa-led Electoral Commission to shed itself off the tight skin and scales of the NPP in order to gain the gravitas and confidence to do right as the Constitution of Ghana expects from them," he posted.
