Ayisha Amidu and Jennifer Satura both from the Captain One Golf Society’s kids project emerged victors in the 2024 edition of the Obuasi Open held at the Obuasi Golf Club.

Rising amateur golfer, Ayisha Amidu, with handicap 23 retuned with 40points to emerge winner in the ladies’ division and was closely followed by her fellow compatriot, Jennifer Satura with 39points playing handicap 33.

Juliet Ayisu came third with 33points playing with a handicap of 30.

In the men’s division, Maxwell Acheampong emerged winner with 39points with handicap nine and was also closely followed by John Asiaw also with handicap nine and returning with 38points. Joshua Amarh also with handicap seven finished with 38points but was beaten on countback by John Asiaw.

The two girls are beneficiaries of the Captain One Golf Society Kids Project that seeks to unearth golf talents in the underprivileged and vulnerable in the golfing communities across the country.

From the Safe-Child Advocacy in Kumasi, the two are registered with the Royal Golf Club under the tutelage of Pro golfer, Yaw Barima Okyere.

Aisha has had a good year wining some major competitions like the Latex Foam Medial held in May at the Royal Golf Club, second at the Ohum tournament at Tafo Golf Club in Koforidua, and the Pan African Tournament held at the NsutaGolf and Country Club.

Speaking after her win, a delighted Ayisha said it was a dream come through to compete on a big stage and win the category.

“I am glad to compete with other golfers and win this trophy. It was very tough but I’m glad to emerge winner,” she stated.

The win she said, would serve as a huge boost going into other major competitions as she would continue working to become the best female golfer in Ghana.

She expressed appreciation to Captain One Golf Society for the support and opportunity to play golf and become successful and appreciated the guidance from her coach, Yaw Barimah Okyere.

Captain One Golf Society through its president, Pius Ayeh Appiah, is appealing to well-meaning Ghanaians and corporate organisations to support their programs to give alternative livelihood to young talented Ghanaian children.
