A 20-year-old man, Yaw Tawiah, also known as Jah Boy, has escaped from police custody, prompting an ongoing investigation, sources at the Juaboso District Police Command have confirmed to the media.
The incident took place on the morning of October 3, 2024, at the Sefwi Boinzan Police Station, where Tawiah was being held for charges including conspiracy to rob, robbery, and illegal possession of a firearm.
Juaboso District Commander, Chief Superintendent Samuel Ntosoh, was informed of the escape and immediately led a team to the Boinzan Charge Office to assess the situation.
Initial findings revealed that Constable Alice Owusu Agyemang, who was on duty, had opened the cell to provide water for Tawiah and his accomplice, Bright Tetteh, alias Kofi Y2K, for flushing their toilet.
During this moment, Tawiah pushed the officer aside and fled into nearby bushes.
A search party, including patrol units, was quickly organised to comb through the surrounding areas and nearby communities. However, despite extensive efforts, the fugitive has not yet been located.
The police have since engaged local informants in hopes of tracking down Tawiah and are continuing their search to bring him back into custody.
