The Minister for Finance, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, has criticised the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for their unsuccessful attempt to campaign against the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) on economic grounds.
According to him, the NDC initially planned to center their election campaign on what they described as the NPP government’s mismanagement of the economy.
Speaking during the NPP’s “Bantama Big Walk” in Kumasi on Saturday, October 5, Dr Amin said that the NDC’s focus has shifted away from the economy as they have realised that the economy is now performing well under the NPP administration.
“I want the NDC to know they used to say that they were going to campaign on the economy and that the economy is not doing well.
“Do you hear them talk about the economy again? Do you hear them talk about the economy? All they are talking about is galamsey. They have lost the campaign on the economy because the economy has come back stronger,” he said.
He further recalled the recent progress made by the NPP government in negotiating debt relief for the country, saying “Just two days ago, this government negotiated with our creditors – those countries we owe – and they have cancelled $5 billion of our debts.”
The Finance Minister expressed strong confidence that the economy is now back on track, saying “The NDC doesn’t want to hear something, and I want to tell them that the economy of Ghana is back, and it is back stronger, and it is going to be stronger and stronger forever.”
