The Director of Medical Affairs at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr Frank Owusu-Sekyere, will assume the role of interim Chief Executive effective October 6, 2024.
This will be until further decisions are made by the appointing authority.
It comes after the hospital’s Board of Directors announced the conclusion of Dr Opoku Ware Ampomah’s tenure, which officially ends on October 5, 2024, marking the completion of his four-year term.
The Board in a statement on Thursday, October 3 expressed gratitude to Dr Ampomah for his dedication and tireless efforts in steering the hospital towards excellence.
"As we await communication from the appointing authorities regarding the next steps, the Board has resolved to appoint Dr. Frank Owusu-Sekyere, Director of Medical Affairs, to act as Interim Chief Executive Officer effective October 6th, 2024.
"The Board's primary concern remains the seamless continuity of the Hospital's operations and the well-being of our patients. We solicit the cooperation and support of all stakeholders during this transition period," portions of the release read.
Dr. Ampomah, a highly esteemed Consultant Plastic Surgeon, has had a remarkable career, particularly as the Director of the National Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Burns Centre.
His contributions to the health sector, especially in reconstructive surgery, and his leadership at Korle Bu, have been pivotal in the hospital's growth and development.
The Board recognised his unwavering dedication to delivering quality healthcare, which has made a lasting impact on both the hospital and the wider healthcare community.
