The highly anticipated 2024 Africa Basketball Festival is one step closer to becoming a reality as the official Local Organising Committee (LOC) has been announced. The LOC, composed of key figures from various sectors of sports management, event planning, and media, will be tasked with ensuring the success of this prestigious event, which continues to grow as a celebration of a blend of basketball, music and fashion.
The 2024 Africa Basketball Festival (ABF), which is the 4th edition, has ten (10) participating countries drawn from Africa and beyond and will take place at University of Ghana from October 24-27, 2024. The Local Organising Committee (LOC) will oversee the festival's logistics, planning, and execution.
The members include Dr. Austin Luguterah, Director of Sports & Wellness at University of Ghana (Chairman), Iddrisu Gamel Ayambire, FIBA Technical Delegate & Vice President, Ghana Basketball Association (Head, Technical), Maurice Quansah, Editor, Graphic Sports (Head, Media & Communication), Eugene Osafo -Nkansah, President of New Media Association of Ghana (Deputy Head, Media and Communication), Eric Agyapong Ankamah, Snr. Sports Coach, University of Ghana Sports & Wellness Directorate (Head, Transport and Accommodation) and Dr. Richard Sylvester Dey, Head of Internal Medicine, University of Ghana Hospital (Head, Medical).
Others include John Owusu- Boakye, Project Coordinator, RITE Sports (Head, Branding & Logistics), Peter Asare, Head of Creative, RITE Sports (Content Production Team), Augustine Amissare, Snr. Assistant Registrar, University of Ghana Sports & Wellness Directorate (Head, Venues, Security & Protocol) and George Lomotey, Director of Marketing- Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (Head, TV Production-Official TV Broadcaster).
As the LOC members take up their respective roles, excitement for the 2024 Africa Basketball Festival is already building. The event is expected to attract top basketball talents from across the continent and beyond, fashion brands and top musical performances. The LOC’s leadership will be critical in ensuring that the event runs smoothly and leaves a lasting legacy.
