Labour analyst Austin Gamey has called on Ghanaians to commend Organised Labour for standing up as the voice of the voiceless.
This comes in the wake of their decision to launch a nationwide strike starting October 10, 2024, over the government’s failure to address the illegal mining (galamsey) crisis.
At an emergency meeting on Tuesday, October 1, Organised Labour expressed frustration with the government’s inaction, having set a September deadline for decisive measures to be taken against galamsey, which they argue is devastating the environment and livelihoods of many Ghanaians.
Joshua Ansah, Secretary General of the TUC, announced, “Following the expiration of our deadline and the government’s failure to meet our demands on illegal mining, Organised Labour has declared a nationwide strike, effective October 10, 2024.”
Speaking to Citi FM on Tuesday, Mr Gamey acknowledged that while the strike would cause disruptions, it is justified.
“Yes, it will cause disruptions, but it’s a worthy disruption. We should applaud Organised Labour for standing up for the voiceless in this country,” he stated.
