The National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it has accepted the Electoral Commission's (EC) assurance to release a corrected and updated version of the 2024 Provisional Voters Register for scrutiny within one week.
This decision follows a Special Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, to address concerns regarding the voters' register.
In a press statement released by the NDC, the party highlighted several issues identified during the meeting, including the illegal transfer of voters due to the lack of "liveliness test" technology, erroneous additions of previous transfers to the current transfer list, and the presence of corrupted files in the provisional voters register, which the EC claims to have rectified.
The NDC General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey who signed the letter also pointed out concerns over deleted voters, whom the EC plans to place on a "Missing Voters Register," and the vulnerabilities in the EC’s IT system, which they believe could be exploited to manipulate election data.
The NDC welcomed the EC's decision to re-exhibit the updated Provisional Voters Register but recommended that the exercise be conducted both online and offline at exhibition centers for broader accessibility.
Additionally, the NDC called for a multi-stakeholder and interparty examination of the EC’s IT system to address these vulnerabilities and ensure the integrity of the December 7, 2024, general elections.
The party emphasized that failure to address these issues could compromise the integrity of the electoral process.
