A dusty but well-set-up school park became the scene of hope and transformation as over 16,000 children, women, and men eagerly gathered as early as 2 am to receive medical care, back-to-school supplies, and more.
This was the scene at this year’s LifeCheck, the social outreach program of the Empowerment Worship Centre (EWC) spearheaded by the Empowerment Care Foundation.
Held at Camp 2 School Park, Teshie, LifeCheck saw people trooping in from the neighbouring areas as well as Tse Addo, Baatsonaa, Nungua, and the Spintex Road community.
Inspired by the vision of Pastor Gideon Danso, LifeCheck has been transforming lives in through a comprehensive outreach programme that provides free medical services including eye care, dental care, ultrasound scans, minor surgical procedures, and free medication.
Laboratory services were available for hepatitis B, malaria, prostate conditions, typhoid, and blood sugar. About 500 people were also registered with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), for free.
A blood donation drive saw many EWC church volunteers donating more than 50 pints to the National Blood Bank.
LifeCheck’s Back-to-School arm saw over 11,000 children and distributed over 100,000 exercise books, 4000+ school bags and stationery items.
They gave out 5,200 shoes to very grateful kids.
According to Pastor Gideon Danso, LifeCheck is EWC’s way of “being the arms and feet of Jesus.”
This year’s LifeCheck theme, Compassion To Make A Difference, referenced in Jude 1:22.
Speaking with a volunteer, she revealed that LifeCheck is not only a blessing to the communities they serve, but through LifeCheck she gets to be blessed by being a part of something bigger than herself with far-reaching impact; far-reaching impact on the grateful mothers, children, men and women who flocked to LifeCheck 2024.
“It’s a blessing to be in a church that allows you to give and bless others.”
