GhIE holds 43rd induction ceremony in Accra

The Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) has held its 43rd Induction ceremony where 114 new engineering porofessionals were inducted at the Engineering Centre, Roman Ridge, Accra on Thursday, September 26, 2024.

The inductees were made up of 103 candidates who participated in the Professional Engineering Examination held in May/June, 2024 and 11 candidates who participated in the Confirmation Hearing route and passed.

The 103 inductees who passed their various examinations were from each of the four Technical Divisions: 47 Civil Technical Division; 21 Mechanical/Agric Technical Division; 9 Chemical/Mining Technical Division and 26 Electrical/Electronic Technical Division.

The 11 inductees who participated in the Confirmation Hearing and passed were made up of three candidates from the Mechanical/Agric Technical Division; four Chemical/Mining Technical Division and four Electrical/Electronic Technical Division.

Administering the Engineering Oath to the inductees, the President of GhIE, Ing Kwabena Bempong, urged the new engineers to continually seek opportunities to upgrade their skills, keep up with emerging trends in their respective fields, and adhere to the highest standards of professional conduct.

Ing Bempong said that the integrity and ethics of the engineering profession are non-negotiable, adding, “as engineering practitioners, we are not just technical experts; we are problem solvers and public servants whose work impacts the lives of many. The choices we make must always reflect the principles of safety, sustainability and public interest. The future is in your hands and you must create that future right from now”.

Inductees raise their hands to say the engineering oath

In an address read on behalf of the Chairman of the Membership Committee of GhIE, Ing Dr. Patrick Amoah Bekoe, a member of the Membership Committee of GhIE, Ing Samuel Boamah Danquah, said, the election to become a Member of any of the four (4) Occupational groups: (Professional Engineer; Professional Engineering Technologist; Engineering Technician; and Engineering Craftsman), requires the Member to have a minimum educational qualification and at least three year’s post-qualification experience. Candidates with these qualifications are screened and qualified to sit for the respective examinations.

Giving a word of advice to the new inductees, a Past President of GhIE, Ing Dr. Kofi Asare Yeboah, said, engineers should not forget to research, they should be honest, punctual, respectful and take care of the needs of the people since engineering is solving problems for the society.

The Chairman of the Engineering Council of Ghana, Ing Dr. Kwame Boakye in his closing remarks said, until engineers are brought to the leadership role and governance in the country, there will be no development because no country develops without engineering.

He explained that the country abounds in a lot of natural resources but we are still under-developed. Engineering is the solution.

He urged them to be active members of the Institution so that they can be recommended to the Engineering Council for the renewal of their licenses.

The induction ceremony was attended by the Vice President of GhIE, Ing Sophia Abena Tijani; President-Elect Ing Ludwig Hesse; Executive Director of GhIE, Ing David Kwatia Nyante; Council Members; Past Presidents of GhIE; guests and family members of inductees.
