The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Abuakwa South, Nana Addo Aikins, says he will establish a women’s bank aimed at empowering local market women through interest-free loans if elected as MP.
According to him, providing financial support for women will improve and expand their businesses, allowing them to invest in better resources, enhance their product offerings, and increase their profitability.
Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on September 27, he stated that providing financial support is only effective with proper infrastructure.
“They will give interest free loans to market women, so that they can trade well, improve upon their trade too. If you are going to give loans to people to trade, you need to give them a market, an infrastructure to be able to operate, so they can pay back the loans they came for, then others can benefit,” he said.
According to the parliamentary candidate, this initiative will ensure that women not only have access to capital but also the facilities needed to enhance their trading capabilities.
Mr Aikins also criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP), claiming that they have failed to deliver tangible developmental projects in the constituency.
“From 1992 if you go to Abuakwa South, go into the history of every developmental project that is there, it is associated with the NDC,” he said.
