The Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin has advocated for better resources and support for teachers to elevate the teaching profession and meet global educational standards.
He made this call during the commissioning of two 6-unit classroom blocks for Achiase and Akim Wenchi as part of Okyenhene's model schools initiative, which aims to construct 10 traditional model schools.
The projects were funded by the Financial Investment Trust of the Bank of Ghana and implemented by the office of the Okyenhene with support from local communities and the affected District Assemblies.
The Okyenhene Model Schools initiative focused on providing adequate classroom space, tables, chairs, beds, and other essential facilities to create a conducive learning environment.
By recognising the critical role teachers play in delivering quality education, Okyenhene Amoatia Ofori Panin urged the government to prioritise teacher development to meet global educational standards and ensure Ghana's competitiveness.
"Government should seek the welfare of teachers, offer them accommodation and when they have peace, then they can teach well."
"The world is moving towards the study of Mathematics, Engineering and Science so teachers who have dedicated to teaching these subjects should be well catered for," he said
The Okyenhene further called on indigenes of the various communities, both home and abroad, to contribute to the development of their hometowns.
He explained that the government alone can not shoulder the responsibility of community development, stressing the need for collective effort.
"There are people who moved to Accra from Achiase and are now doing well. I know a lot of them, my plea is that they return to their roots to support development programmes," he said.
