A 34-year-old mobile money operator was on Tuesday night shot and robbed at American Farm, a suburb of Ngleshie Amanfro in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Region.
Famous Fiabgbe was robbed at gunpoint by two robbers with a motorbike who took away an amount of GHc120, 000 and shot him multiple times in his legs.
The incident took place at 10 pm when the victim had closed for the day.
The incident attracted some residents to the scene as the victim lay in a pool of blood.
They rushed the victim to the Amanfro Polyclinic where he was later transferred to the Winneba Trauma Centre in the Central Region.
Ngleshie Amanfro police have confirmed the incident and say investigation into the incident has begun.
According to them, the suspects who arrived at the location on a motorbike attacked the victim immediately after he locked his shop around 10:00 pm.
The mother of the victim, Madam Favour Dikah, who witnessed the incident said the suspect started shooting the victim until he became weak and they took the bag which contained the money away.
Favor Dikah said the suspects fired more than five shots to scare residents.
According to the mother, Famous Fiabgbe operates two mobile money shops at a location called Elder Duah.
However, sporadic gunshots were heard closer to where his shop is located.
For some time now, residents have suffered robbery attacks as robbers who use motorbikes to target their victims, especially at dawn and late evening have invaded the community.
Previously, robbers preyed on traders heading to the Kasoa market early in the morning on Market days.
The areas where they mostly rob now lack street lighting, and the robbers take advantage of the darkness, hiding behind parked motorbikes and attacking unsuspecting passersby with knives and other weapons.
Streets such as Methodist Junction, Heaven Way on Assemblies Road, Oriens Junction, and the White House area have become hotspots for robberies, as well as Apedwa, 50-50, Chairman and Free Farms.
According to sources at the Amanfro police station, there have been a few reported cases, making it difficult for the police to apprehend the culprits, although they have promised to investigate.
The latest incident, which has caused fear among residents has angered the youths who have vowed to arm themselves to lynch any robbery suspect in the community while other residents are calling on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to quickly move his men to provide security for the community.
