Former President John Mahama has officially cut the sod for the construction of a modern 500-seater sports facility at Bole-Bamboi in the Northern Region.
This initiative is part of his commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure in the region and promoting physical activities among the youth.
During the ceremony, Mr Mahama stressed the importance of providing adequate facilities for sports development, which he believes is essential for nurturing talent and fostering community engagement.
Mr Mahama stated that the new sports facility will serve as a hub for various sporting activities, encouraging local youth to engage in healthy competitions and recreational pursuits.
He emphasised that investing in sports not only helps to build physical fitness but also contributes to the overall development of the community by promoting unity and teamwork.
The former president expressed his hope that the facility will inspire young athletes and create opportunities for them to showcase their talents.
Mr Mahama also pledged to pursue policies that promote inclusive growth across all sectors, including education, health, and infrastructure.
He reiterated his commitment to ensuring that development projects benefit all segments of society, particularly marginalised communities.
"I cut the sod for the construction of a 500-seater modern sports facility for the youth and people of my home constituency, Bole-Bamboi, and its surrounding communities on Sunday."
"Facilitated by my younger brother, the Member of Parliament for Bole, Alhaji Yusif Suleman, the facility will contain a football pitch with changing rooms, volleyball and tennis courts and a swimming pool."
"When completed, this will surely be an excellent opportunity to provide the youth with an avenue to develop their sporting skills and talents, keep them healthy, and create entertainment opportunities through the various games and activities in the complex. The construction work will also create job opportunities for the town’s skilled and unskilled youth," he posted on Facebook.
The construction of the sports facility in Bole-Bamboi is seen as a significant step toward enhancing the region's sports infrastructure and fostering community spirit.
Local residents expressed their enthusiasm for the project, viewing it as a much-needed resource that will positively impact the youth and the community as a whole.
