The vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party and former Minister of Education, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has dismissed calls to depoliticise the education sector, arguing that the focus should be on enhancing the quality of education in Ghana.
Speaking at the 57th National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) Congress at KNUST, he emphasized that while political interests may impact the sector, the real priority should be equipping schools with the necessary resources and infrastructure to ensure quality education for all students.
“I’ve never come across a single country in the world where education is not politicised and not to attempt to do is rather a lack of knowledge on what education is all about.
“Really, we should be focusing on quality education, technical and vocational training, and NUGS, the student leadership should always be the champion and the beacon of advocacy of quality education and technical training in this country,” he stated.
According to the former minister, the notion that large numbers of people are needed to change the country’s future is misguided, insisting that a few committed individuals can make a significant impact on the nation’s development.
