Some disqualified presidential candidates for the 2024 general elections are threatening legal action against the Jean Mensah-led Electoral Commission for what they describe as lack of clarity for their disqualifications.

This follows the EC disqualifying 11 candidates from the 2024 presidential race while releasing a list of 13 individuals who passed the process and are set to contest the race.

According to disqualified candidates, they have not been treated fairly by the EC and the elections management body has also failed to explain clearly the decision to disqualify them.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Friday, some disqualified candidates took on the EC for the decision.

The People’s National Convention’s flagbearer, Bernard Mornah said: "the Electoral Commission is a creation of law and so we will never engage in violence. We thank that the Electoral Commission erred and they must by themselves rectify that error."

He further challenged the EC to subject the other nominations forms of the other qualified candidate to an audit.

Also, the Progressive People’s Party’s National Chairman, Nana Ofori Owusu is furious with the Commission for disqualifying his party.

According to him, his party would definitely be on the ballot paper for the 2024 election.

“We are definitely going to court and I guarantee you, we will be on the ballot. We are not afraid of the Electoral Commission, they are not the Alpha and Omega – they are a creation of the court and in creation of the constitution, you must offer us the right for us to speak, to be heard and to correct whatever errors you perceive but you write a letter that is so vague that does not specify what the wrongs are and you think that you are going to get away with this?” he indicated.
