The Electoral Commission (EC) has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining neutrality in the upcoming December general elections.
According to the EC, its role as a referee is to facilitate orderly, fair, transparent, and credible elections without influencing the outcome.
Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, September 20, the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa stated that the Commission does not hold the power to decide the results of the December 7 general elections.
“We as a commission do not have the power to determine who wins the elections. It is not in our control to determine the outcome of the elections. The power indeed lies with the good people of our dear country.
“It is only the citizens alone who can determine who should lead them and not the Electoral Commission. It is the candidates who is given power to lead this country by the citizens who will be declared the president of the Republic of Ghana by the Electoral Commission come 7 December 2024,” she said.
She extended her best wishes to all qualified candidates and encouraged them to focus their campaigns on policies and programmes that will benefit society.
The EC further called for a respectful, issue-based campaign atmosphere.
