Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Akwasi Konadu, responsible for Lands and Forestry, paid a working visit to the Eastern Regional Forest Service and Wildlife Division (FSD) of the Forestry Commission on Thursday, September 19, 2024.

The visit aimed to strengthen ties between the Ministry and its agencies and inform decision-making to benefit all Stakeholders.

"I am here to familiarize myself with the operations of the Division and strengthen the bond between the Ministry and its agencies," Mr. Konadu stated.

During the visit, the Regional Manager of FSD, Mr Noble Eshun, presented the division's operational activities, achievements, and areas needing development. Despite exceeding targets last year, challenges include inadequate staffing, office logistics, and forest reserve encroachment by farmers.

Mr Moses Anongura, Regional Manager of the Wildlife division, highlighted concerns, including supervising protected areas and zoos, building capacity for wildlife management and securing land for a zoo in the New Juaben North District.

Mr Konadu assured staff that the Ministry and the Commission would provide logistics to motivate staff. "We will ensure that logistics are provided to motivate staff both on the field and in the office."

On the sidelines of the working tour, the Deputy Minister also visited the Ministry of Roads and Highway Training Centre to inspect trees planted during the Green Ghana Day exercise.

Principal at the Centre, Mr Daniel Kojo Asare, promised to nurture the trees to maturity.

The Deputy Minister's visit demonstrates the government's commitment to supporting forestry operations and addressing challenges in the sector.
