The Communications Director at the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, says the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram is not yet ready to host Black Stars training.
The GFA has made lots of investments at the facility including the provision of six boreholes to take care of the pitches.
However, Asante Twum, speaking on Joy News' PM Express on Wednesday, September 18, revealed the Ghana Soccer Centre of Excellence is still not ready for the senior national team to use at the moment despite boasting two grass pitches.
"When it comes to training pitches for national teams, the primary or the power comes from the head coach. He decides where he wants to train and it is based on a number of reasons. We have two grass pitches at Prampram and we want to build more," he said.
Quizzed on whether the Black Stars can train at the facilities, he answered, "At the moment, no, because the pitches are not in good condition.
"The pitches in question were constructed years ago. When we decided to make the borehole project available in Prampram, it was to try and see if we could get those pitches back in a condition where it would be useful enough."
The Black Stars have used several training facilities including the recently renovated University of Ghana Stadium but 'security reasons' according to Asante Twum, forced the team to return to the Accra Sports Stadium.
As things stand, three of Ghana's major stadiums have been closed down for maintenance purposes with the Black Stars' next home game in danger of being played abroad.
