The Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for what he views as a contradictory stance towards the Electoral Commission (EC).
His remarks come in the wake of the NDC’s recent protests and demands for a forensic audit of the voter register.
In an interview with Channel One TV, Ahiagbah pointed out that the NDC's current opposition to the EC stands in stark contrast to their previous support for the commission.
He suggested that the party’s shift in position undermines its credibility and raises questions about its motives.
Mr Ahiagbah argued that the NDC’s past defense of the EC was marked by strong support for the commission’s autonomy and its role in overseeing elections.
He contended that the party’s recent actions are not only inconsistent but also contradict the principles they once championed.
The Communications Director further criticised the NDC for what he described as a politically motivated attempt to undermine the EC’s credibility.
He referenced former President John Dramani Mahama’s principle of allowing the EC to function without undue interference, suggesting that the NDC's current behaviour is at odds with this approach.
“Everything they (NDC) are saying today they were against it. They were defending spiritedly the EC, led by the flagbearer, the former president John Dramani Mahama, their general secretary now National Chairman of the party, every one of them in 2016, 2012 they were defending the EC very spiritedly.”
“So everything they are on the streets trying to canvass against or for themselves their utterances negate their actions then. So they don’t have the moral capacity if they want to be honest,” he said.
