Ghana midfielder Elisha Owusu says sharing the same pitch as Andre Ayew has been a 'big honour' since his debut for the Black Stars.
Owusu made his debut for the national during the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier playoff against Nigeria, coming on in the second half of the second leg.
Since then, the midfielder has added nine more appearances to his game including featuring in the last two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and Niger in September.
Speaking to Flashscore, the 26-year-old revealed his admiration for Kevin-Prince Boateng during his childhood.
"Growing up I used to watch Kevin-Prince Boateng a lot. I loved him as a kid," he said.
"Andre Ayew also because when you're from France he is the ‘big big’ man. Having the chance to play with him in the national team was a big honour for me."
The France-based midfielder played a key role in Auxerre securing a return to the French top flight at the end of the 2023/24 season.
Owusu is keen to ensure his side remains in Ligue 1 for the foreseeable future.
"We need to stay together. Even though we have lost some games, we have shown the quality to play in Ligue 1 so we need to build on that," he continued.
"We need to also pay attention to the small details. The coach gives us the confidence and we have a strong team so we just have to keep going."
