To support women battling cancer in Ghana, Twists & Locs, Ghana’s premier natural hair salon, has partnered with the Santé Initiative to celebrate its 15th anniversary with the fifth edition of its flagship project, “Wigs of Love.”
The initiative aims to provide free wigs to women undergoing chemotherapy, helping them regain confidence and feel beautiful during their treatment journey.
Cancer is an all-too-common challenge in Ghana, with over 15,000 women diagnosed in 2022 alone. Half of these cases were either cervical, ovarian, or breast cancer (Global Cancer Observatory).
For many, chemotherapy treatment results in hair loss, which can significantly impact self-esteem and increase feelings of isolation due to the stigma associated with visible signs of illness.
Since 2020, “Wigs of Love” has been at the forefront of addressing this issue by donating wigs to cancer patients across the country. This year, in partnership with The C.A.R.E. Project of the Santé Initiative, the program is expanding its reach to celebrate and support even more women facing this difficult battle.
The “Wigs of Love” project offers more than just hair replacements; it provides a sense of dignity and empowerment for women who are often left feeling vulnerable by their condition. The wigs, crafted by skilled stylists, are designed to help cancer patients reclaim a sense of normalcy and grace.
To mark this special anniversary, Twists & Locs is calling on the community to participate in the project. The salon is encouraging the donation of pre-loved wigs, which will be revitalized and passed on to women in need. The public can drop off wigs at any Twists & Locs location, where rattan baskets have been placed to collect the donations.
As part of their commitment to making a difference, Twists & Locs and the Santé Initiative are also accepting financial contributions to help fund the project. These donations, starting from as little as 50 GHS, will be used to continue crafting high-quality wigs for women undergoing cancer treatment.
This milestone celebration not only honors Twists & Locs' journey of making natural hair beautiful for 15 years but also highlights the salon's dedication to giving back to the community in a meaningful way. With a focus on empowering cancer warriors, “Wigs of Love” is a testament to the transformative power of support and solidarity.
As Twists & Locs continues to expand its impact, the “Wigs of Love” initiative serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of community-driven efforts in uplifting those who need it most.
