NDC protest will be peaceful – Tanko- Computer

The Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Rashid Tanko-Computer, has assured Ghanaians that the party's protest against the Electoral Commission (EC) will be peaceful.

He emphasised that the NDC has consistently shown that its protests are non-violent.

On September 9, the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, announced that the party would hold a nationwide demonstration on September 17 to protest the EC's refusal to conduct a forensic audit of the voter register for the December elections.

Speaking on Joy FM's Top Story, Dr Tanko-Computer said, "We don't expect any violence tomorrow."

"Since the inception of this Nana Addo-led administration, despite their violent posture in government, we have repeatedly demonstrated that we are not associated with violence. All the demonstrations we’ve held under their administration have never ended in any violent incidents, and we can assure Ghanaians that tomorrow will be no different. There will be no violent demonstration; tomorrow’s protest will be peaceful."

Dr Tanko-Computer assured the commissioners of their safety.

He also pointed out that the commissioners are being manipulated and, rather than maintaining their integrity, they have allowed themselves to be influenced by the government.

“We assure the commissioners that we are not coming to attack them. No, we know that they have been manipulated. Instead of living above reproach, they have allowed themselves to be influenced by the Flagstaff House, and that is what we are addressing. We are not going to attack them. It will be very peaceful across the country—very, very peaceful. We just want to ensure that our democratic rights are protected, and that is why we are embarking on this.”
